Our nearest shopping centre is call Dog Swamp - heaven only know why! Its a good, smallish centre with Woolworths supermarket, fruit n veg shop, butcher, health food shop, two clothes shops, chemst, florist, haberdashery shop, flower shop and restaurant - all you need really.
We're having a bit of a heatwave these days - quite hot and sticky today. There's a cyclone off the west coast - predicted to sideswipe us tomorrow - so we'll have to batten down the hatches - or at least put the car into the garage anyway!
We took a stroll through King's Park just as the sun set this evening. Can you see the huge new skyscraper in the centre of the city - with the cranes on top? It will be the biggest building in the city so far ...
Last Sunday the golf club held its annual Burns day - a mixed foursomes scramble followed by a traditional Burns supper complete with Haggis n'tatties n' neeps followed by Scottish dancing, poetry and revelry generally. A great day - as we toasted the bard with a wee nip and were piped out onto the course in a Scottish manner ...
January 26th is the National Holiday in Australia known as Australia Day when the Ozzies CELEBRATE in style. CItizenship ceremonies are held in each major city in the morning and day-long festivities take place everywhere. It also happens to be Mags' birthday - so HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAGS! George and I got into the city around 4.30. We took up a spot on the waterfront and waited for the Sky Show to begin. The show involved all sorts of plane and tricks in the sky for the next couple of hours until the fireworks display just after dark. Mags and Hugh joined us later .. as did Charlie and Finn.
