During the long hot summer months George and I took part in the matchplay series in Mt Lawley golf club. We won through three preliminary rounds and got ourselves into the final. Today, May 1st was the day set for us to play the final but George was not strong enough to play today so the club Captain kindly allowed us to draft in another player in his stead. Milan Chetkovich, the club President, volunteered his services. Gayl, my caddy, caddied, George came and watched the second 9 from a buggy. It was a good, well fought match. Milan and I found ourselves 4 down after 4! Not a good start, but we pulled out some good golf and took the match to the 18th where we lost by one hole. The other guys played great golf. It was a lovely day - in about 24 degrees of brilliant sunshine - like every day here!
I must tell you that Milan and his son Alex actually played Monkstown Golf CLub on September 15th 2009 - the day George and I left for Australia! We knew they were coming - Mt Lawley and Monkstown had a reciprocal arrangement at that time - but we missed them because we had flight tickets already booked. Alex is still in Dublin and we have come to know Milan well here.
