Schubert String Quintet with ACO

We went to hear Richard Tognetti and four of his friends from the Australian Chamber Orchestra in the concert hall on Wednesday. They gave a most amazing performance of the Schubert String Quintet in the second half of the programme. What with Tognetti playing his beautiful Guarneri del Gesu (1743), Satu Vanska, 2nd violin, playing the newly acquired ACO Stradavarius (1728), the 1st 'cellist playing a Guarneri from 1729 and the second 'cellist playing a Testore from 1718 - the sound was brilliantly delicate throughout. The violist had to make do with a viola from 1937!
