Firstly, you are allowed to drive your buggy across the greens! With wide wheels they do no damage to the excellent greens! The greens are so big, it takes an extra half an hour per round to walk all the way around them all!
Also, with shock and horror, I killed a magpie with my drive off the second hole! There was a group of magggies having a fight on the ground in front of the tee box as I set up to play the shot. I expected that the ball would take off with a high trajectory - as usual - but, of course, it didn't! It took off low, struck a bird immediately and killed it! My playing partners and I were horrified! The bird rolled around on the ground for about a minute with all of the other birds watching. Then it stopped moving altogether and the others flew away!
That's the second time I've killed a bird with a golf ball. The other time was a few years ago on the 5th in Monkstown. My approach shot with a 9-iron flew high and hit a sea-gull in flight - the bird fell to the ground injured and hobbled into the ditch. We had to go away leaving it there - horrible! George was with me.
